Sunken Temple
Size of Drawing- 36”x 23”
Date completed-October 2007
Media- Installation- Charcoal on paper, candles, coins, tray

On seeing one of the temples on the banks of the Hampi River, the idea for this piece came to me. This particular temple, they said, was sinking. I rendered the drawing in charcoal. I also incorporated some calligraphy by including the ancient script that was engraved on the temple stone walls. I then placed the drawing in a water tank with coins and lit floating candles. I played music from Claude Debussy’s La Cathedrale Engloutie (The sunken cathedral). I hoped that this would help create a clear visual connection between the song and my piece.
