I created cutouts of natural objects that look like ornaments and arranged them to create a pattern that looks like a cycle. Each of the objects are placed on rubbings of grave stones. Evidently, the theme of this piece is life and death; each object is linked to this theme. In Japanese culture, the butterfly is a symbol of reincarnation; the raven is an omen symbolizing the arrival of death; and the dead rose and the heart are iconic symbols of life and death.
