Media- Paper and Charcoal Rubbings
In this project, I created cutouts of natural objects that look like ornaments. I then arranged them to create a pattern that looks like a cycle. Each of the objects are placed on rubbings of grave stones. Evidently, the theme of this piece is life and death and each object is linked to the theme. In Japanese culture, the butterfly is a symbol of reincarnation; the raven is an omen symbolizing the arrival of death; and the dead rose and the heart are iconic symbols of life and death. In addition, the piece also hints at romantic, poetic theme.
